Mail

This morning I stumbled upon the Smithsonian Institutions Photostream on Flickr. Have you seen it? It’s amazing! There are all these really neat old portraits of dead guys I’ve never heard of (who were you Daniel Garber?) and documentary photos (Edward Gay working at his easel).

There are also all these photos of the postal system.

Apparently that top one is a picture of the Christmas rush. I find something magical about that. Think of all the letters to Santa in that pile! I love getting and sending mail, don’t you? I think it’s one of the best way to make people feel special.

One that note, have a lovely weekend! I might just have some adventures to share on Monday.

Closeted

In my tiny, shabby, overpriced, student apartment it should be no surprise that the closet space is limited. “Limited” is actually rather generous since originally the closet space in my room was non-existent, that is until the landlord added a chifforobe/ armoire thing and thus I have a place to store my shoes. Our room is also heated by a lone space heater, but that’s another matter. Honestly, our closet is just fine and does what it needs to do (The space heater on the other hand…), but I think that all girls, at least those with an affinity for clothes, dream idyllically of one day having the perfect closet. Being a walk-in is a given but I also think my perfect closet would be all white but have pink wallpaper lining the back of the shelves and hanging sections (maybe something like this or this). If that doesn’t work out though, the people featured on the blog The Coveteur have some pretty amazing closets that I wouldn’t mind stealing for my own. I’d probably have to buy more shoes in order to fill the space, but that is a sacrifice I’d be willing to make.

Princesses on Parade

Dina Goldstein’s Fallen Princesses Project is dually bleak and incredible. As a lover of all things Disney, it makes my heart hurt to see my childhood heroes like this.  I can’t even really look at the one of Belle.  Goldstein’s artist statement is incredibly interesting though, and I most certainly applaud her and the message that she is trying to project. If I’ve learned anything from being the girlfriend of a art student, it’s that the best art sometimes makes you really uncomfortable… however, this is also true of the worst art.

Though right now, lets go back to happy times okay?

Ahh, that’s better. Who’s your favorite Princess (Disney or otherwise)?
